So what exactly is there in Mayer anyway?
| Come see the Patayan Indian ruins. These were Puebloan people whom had
contact with the Sinagua, Hohokam, Anasazi, and many others. These ruins or atop
a large hill just a few miles outside of Mayer. It is also believed that these
people were a melting pot, so to speak, of tribes. This mixture of multiple
tribes is evident in many of the artifacts as well as the construction of
the ruin. Much of their culture remains a
mystery and no one actually knows where they went or why they left. All they
left behind was a few walls and some petroglyphs atop a hill. Measures are being
taken to raise awareness and to preserve these beautiful ruins. |

This is just one of many petroglyphs on the hill. There are several petroglyphs
along with the remnants of walls and from the top you can see
The irrigation canal and garden area used to grow such crops as corn, squash,
and beans. Just down the road a bit is a wash with several more
Petroglyphs along its rocky terrain.

So after all this climbing and walking were
is there we can go to rest up and recharge?
| There are two great places to sit down and eat in Mayer. We have the
creek side lodge with lodging, and we have the
Chuck Wagon BBQ ( home of some of the best food in the west) just
behind the post office on main street. Stop in and say hello to Steve and Karen, tell'em who sent you.
In a hurry? Stop over at Mayer Market on South Hwy 69 and try Paul's world
famous deli, Home of the Big Paul Burrito.
